Aquino To Sign 4 Accords In Vietnam

MANILA, Philippines ?At least four agreements will be signed during President Benigno S. Aquino III state visit in Vietnam from October 26 to 27 which is expected to enhance the country's bilateral cooperation and collaboration in higher education, defense and maritime affairs.

Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary for Policy Erlinda Basilio in a briefing in Malacang said the agreements include the Memorandum of Agreement on Academic Cooperation, on Defense Cooperation, on Oil Spill Preparedness and Response, and on Search and Rescue at Sea.

The two-day state visit comes before the 17th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Meetings in Hanoi on the 28th to the 30th where President Aquino is expected to have bilateral meetings with the heads of states of among others,scarpe hogan, New Zealand, Australia, Russia, and Indonesia.

Basilio said the state visit at the invitation of Vietnam President Nguyen Minh Triet has a two-pronged objectives.

President Aquino will have a bilateral meeting with the Vietnamese President and will also meet with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The Philippines is expected to push key initiatives on human rights, biodiversity, connectivity and culture during the ASEAN summit.
